Antitrust cases (DG Competition) 
Listing based on all public documents issued since 1999 concerning antitrust cases handled by the Commission (cases treated under Articles 81 and 82 of the EC Treaty). Links are provided to the full texts of published information.

Archisplus (Historical Archives of the European Commission) 
Contains references to official documents in the archives of the European Coal and Steel Community (CECA), European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) and European Economic Community (EEC) as well as the current European Community.

Cordis (Community Research and Development Information Service) 
Cordis is a free site for researchers and businesses on all aspects of Community-funded research, particularly the Framework Programmes. It currently has more than 42,000 web pages and has more than 250,000 users every month. The site includes information on more than 62,000 EU-funded projects and over 13,000 sets of research results. One very useful aspect of the site is its document library, which maintains an online collection of official documents back to 1994.

COST (Coopération européenne dans le domaine de la recherche scientifique et technique) 
COST (European cooperation in the field of scientific and technical research) is a framework for joint research in Europe founded in 1971 and administered by the Council of the European Union, although the research actions are funded nationally. The database contains details of all current research and includes links to websites and reports where available.

Curia (Court of Justice of the European Communities) 
The database includes all language versions of the Proceedings (weekly summaries of judgments and opinions) since September 1996 and the full text of recent judgments and opinions, since June 1997, searchable by case number and by name. Earlier judgments are also available via links to the Eur-Lex database. An index to all the published reports in case number order is also now available.

Daphne Programme (Europa) 
The first Daphne programme (1997-2003) funded over 200 projects concerned with the prevention of violence against women, young people and children. Daphne II has produced the Daphne Toolkit, a database of over 450 current projects (2004-2008) searchable by country and keyword.

ECLAS 
ECLAS is the online catalogue of the European Commission Library. A bibliographic database for books, journals and articles on European affairs, including online publications.

EDDRA Exchange on Drug Demand Reduction Action (European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction)

EEA multilingual environment glossary 
The European Environment Agency’s glossary database contains about 600 terms used in EEA publications with definitions and translations in 23 languages. Searches can also be linked to documents and other information on EIONET (the European Environment Information and Observation Network).

EIB Evaluation Instrument Bank (European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction)

ELDD European Legal Database on Drugs (European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction)

Electronic Training Village (Cedefop) 
The ETV is both an online research community on all aspects of educational and vocational training and a searchable database of news and publications. Free registration is required for access to some information areas.

ELTIS (European Local Transport Information System)

EMIRE The European Employment and Industrial Relations Glossaries 
Online version of the European Employment and Industrial Relations Glossaries published from 1996 to 1999. It covers the 15 member states up to 2004 and is no longer updated.

EPER (European Pollutant Emission Register) 
A European-wide register of industrial emissions into air and water, it is searchable by pollutant, activity (sector), air and water (direct or via a sewerage system) or by country.

ERGO (European Research Gateways Online) 
A specialised catalogue of Community projects relating to research and development.

ERPA European Research Papers Archive 
The archive currently holds the full text of working papers in 9 series produced by research institutes and universities.

ESIS (European chemical Substances Information System) 
European Chemicals Bureau, databases related to: EINECS (European Inventory of Existing Chemical Substances), ELINCS (European LIst of Notified Chemical Substances), NLP (No-Longer Polymers), etc.

espac@net 
Espacenet is the European Patent Office database, which currently contains 45 million patent applications from around the world. It can be accessed via each of Europe’s national patent offices and includes articles and a discussion forum.

EQUAL Common Database (ECDB) 
ECDB provides information about all development projects financed by the EU to promote equality under the EQUAL programme. The database is searchable by country, theme and keyword.

EU Bookshop 
The EU Bookshop is a service from the Publications Office offering an online catalogue and archive of all EU publications since 2004.

The official directory of the European Union, searchable by name or by position

EUNIS (European Nature Information System) 
This EEA database contains data arranged by species, habitat and sites collected under the Habitats Directive and aims to help reporting.

Eureka 
Eureka, established in 1985, is a pan-European initiative sponsoring innovative projects in European industries. The website includes a searchable database of projects.

EURES (European employment services) 
EURES: the European job mobility portal, is designed to help people find jobs or learning opportunities in other EU countries and Switzerland. As well as details of specific jobs it includes national regulations for those seeking employment.

EURHISTAR Historical Archives of the European Union 
Contains descriptions of all documents and collections held by the Archives at the European University Institute in Florence.

Eur-Lex 
Single portal for European legal information (legislation, case law, treaties, Official Journal).

EurLife (European Foundation) 
An interactive database of statistics relating to living conditions and quality of life in 25 EU states and 3 candidate countries.

Euristote 
Database of doctoral and post-doctoral research in European integration and law. Divided into two sections: pre- and post-1994.

Eurodicautom 
Automated translation tool for words and phrases in all Community languages + Latin. May be absorbed into a new service after the 2004 accessions.

Euro glossary 
A multilingual glossary for words and phrases relating to the euro.

Europa glossary 
Europa has provided a useful glossary of about 220 terms relating to European integration in 11 languages as part of SCADPlus.

Europass 
Europass has been set up by Cedefop to coordinate mobility of students and workers by providing standardised documents for CVs, applications and language passports. It is available in 22 languages.

European Biometrics Portal (EBP) 
The portal has been set up by the European Commission as a forum for the exchange of information and data on biometric technology. Access and membership are free. The extensive database of resources is the result of voluntary contributions from interested authors.

European Environment Agency (EEA) Data service 
The data service provides almost all data sets and applications which have been used in EEA’s periodical environmental reports.

European Foreign Policy Bulletin (European University Institute) 
Fully searchable database containing all foreign policy declarations made by the European institutions since 1985.

European industrial relations dictionary 
Online dictionary of over 300 terms relating to employment and industrial relations in EU member states

European Ombudsman Decisions Index 
A database of decisions since 1998, searchable by case no., institution concerned, etc.

European Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Bureau (based at the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies in Seville) 
The EIPPC Bureau acts as a central point for collating best practice and creating reference documents on pollution caused by a wide range of industrial processes. The database is searchable by industry area and reference documents (with reference BREF) may be downloaded, sometimes in a choice of languages. These documents are generally large PDF files.

European Restructuring Monitor 
This database from the European Foundation provides information about company restructuring in the EU and its effect on employment.

Eurostat (Statistical Office of the European Communities) 
Provides the most complete access to statistical information from all the member states and many other countries.

Eurovoc thesaurus 
Eurovoc is a multilingual thesaurus of terms used in European law and policy. It is used to provide subject terms for the ECLAS library catalogue and the Eur-Lex database and is also used by other European and national institutions.

Eurybase 
Detailed information about the education systems of all members of the Eurydice information network. 
Searchable in English, French or German; documents available in all Community languages.

FADN Farm Accountancy Data network 
Database covering detailed statistics of farm holdings from 1989 until 2004. The French acronym is RICA, the German is INLB.

The Database features over 100 countries and offers renewable energy market and policy information in one format in one location for countries that together represent almost total global renewables supply.

HASTE – The European health and safety database 
The research is conducted by the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions. The database is hosted by the Finnish Institute for Occupational Health.

HUDOC (European Court of Human Rights) 
Although not concerned directly with European law, ECHR judgments are of great importance in legal research.

INCA (International Review of Curriculum and Assessment Frameworks Internet Archive) 
Provides useful summaries of the education systems of 20 countries, 9 from the EU, searchable by country or subject.

INCO-Dev 
A programme to build scientific cooperation between organisations in Europe and those in developing countries.

Incubators database 
A searchable database of incubators for help in starting up new businesses.

INFOREGIO – Regional Development Programmes 
Summaries of most of the programmes that have been officially adopted by the European Commission. Summaries are all available in English, in French and in the language(s) of the country(-ies) concerned.

INSPIRE (Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe) 
The European Geo-Portal is hosted by the Institute for Environment and Sustainability in Ispra (part of the Joint Research Centre). The database is still under development and will require registration for researchers to get access to spatial information about Europe.

International agreements (Eur-Lex) 
This new section of Eur-Lex is searchable by subject matter or by a classified list. It includes a link to the Agreements database of the Council of the European Union, which contains details of all agreements and conventions concluded between the EC and other parties; it is searchable by parties, title and date.

The European Central Bank holds details of banks and their assets on this searchable database covering all EU member states.

Nando information system 
Nando lists all the bodies approved to carry out conformity assessment of industrial products within the EU and throughout the world. It is searchable by country, by directive and by organisation.

NEDIES (Natural and Environmental Disasters Information Exchange System) 
Based at the Joint Research Centre in Italy, the database carries information in all languages categorised by type of disaster. There are two aspects to the site, public and password protected.

New Approach 
This Commission website contains all directives and details of standards relating to them as published in the OJ.

New Approach Standardisation in the Internal Market 
Searchable databases of European standards from 3 main organisations (CEN, CENELEC and ETSI) with information on how to obtain them; it also includes links to relevant European legislation.

The database is searchable by keyword (under Legislative dossiers), by subject and by procedure number. A précis is given of each stage of the discussions in Parliament with links to online versions of reports.

Database of online case studies.

PLOTEUS (Portal on Learning Opportunities throughout the European Space) 
PLOTEUS is designed to help students, teachers and job seekers find information about grants, education systems and opportunities in other EU states. It operates in coordination with EURES (see below).

Pre-Lex (Monitoring of the decision-making process between institutions) 
This database has a similar function to OEIL in monitoring the progress of legislation from initial proposals as COM documents to the reports and opinions of all institutions involved in the legislative process. Where available links are made to electronic versions of texts involved, including press releases and summaries in the Bulletin of the European Union. It is searchable by procedure number, words in title, etc.

PRISM (Progress Report on Initiatives in the Single Market) 
PRISM is the database of the Single Market Observatory, managed by the European Economic and Social Committee. Originally set up in 1994, the database is a useful source of information on national and EU initiatives.

QUOTA (Tariff quotas and ceilings) 
Displays the balances of each tariff quota and ceiling applicable in the present year and in the past year. It also indicates certain other important information, such as the date when a particular tariff quota or ceiling is reached.

RAMON (Eurostat’s Metadata Server) 
The main objective of this server is to make available the largest possible stock of past and present metadata in order to help users in the analysis of statistical data.

RAPID 
The database holds all press releases of the Commission since 1985.

Regio (Eurostat) 
Regio is Eurostat’s harmonised regional statistical database. It covers the main aspects of economic and social life in the European Union, classified to the first three levels of the Nomenclature of Statistical Territorial Units (NUTS).

Register of Expert Groups 
The Commission’s register of advisory bodies is searchable by subect area, by DG and alphabetically.

Register of Comitology 
A register and repository of documents relating to the work of the committees (agendas and records of committee meetings, draft implementing measures, voting records) and available in 11 languages.

Rome Convention database 
Database on the Convention on the Law Applicable to Contractual Obligations (Rome 1980); it includes the text of the convention and protocols, reports, searchable database of cases and bibliography.

SERIS (State of the Environment Reporting Information System) 
Hosted by the EEA this is an inventory of all national reports published on environmental conditions in Europe. Relevant chapters from the EEA’s own reports from the Dobris assessment onwards can be downloaded. The database is searchable by country and by year.

SIMAP (Systeme d’Information pour les Marches Publics) 
SIMAP is an information service on public procurement in the single market with useful links to the text of legislation and international agreements. Procedures are due to change in March 2005 restricting the submission of tenders to electronic forms available from this site, which also includes information about the Common Procurement Vocabulary. Information is currently only available in English, although other language versions are promised.

Social dialogue texts database 
A database of reports and agreements made between different sectors of industry in areas relating to employment and industrial relations.

SUSPENSIONS (Autonomous Tariff Suspensions) 
Provides information on autonomous tariff suspensions coming under Council Regulation (EC) No 1255/96, in preparation or in force.

TARIC (“Tarif intégré de la Communauté” or “Integrated Tariff of the Community”) 
Lists preferential duty rates using TARIC codes, which are obligatory in customs declaration forms.

TED (Tenders Electronic Daily) 
TED is a free service from the European Commission providing a searchable database of calls for tender for public service contracts advertised in the Supplement to the Official Journal. Information and search forms are available in all 20 official languages. Tenders can be found by publication reference, contract number, place, NUTS (region) code and CPV (Common Procurement Vocabulary) code.

Tenders Direct 
Tenders Direct is a subscription service which allows free searches by subject area and provides a useful introduction to the tendering process, especially for UK users.

TIS (Terminological Information System, Council of the European Union) 
TIS on the Web is a simplified version of the terminological database used by terminologists and translators working in the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union.

TOAD Transfer of Administrative Documents (Committee of the Regions) 
Database containing working documents, agendas and meeting dates of the COR.

TRANSIT (Transit Customs Offices) 
Online directory of authorised customs offices.
